Villa Moda by Marcel Wonders

Described as a ‘fun playground for shoppers’, the Villa Moda store offers a mix of luxury brands that were unavailable to the local public. Upon entering the store, customers enter a long and narrow corridor that opens into a high-ceilinged space  that has giant patterns in black and white on custom carpeting and overcalled wallpaper. These products were custom-made by local and international craftsmen. In addition, the designer included Bisazza mosaics and custom-made carpets from Germany. By keeping the colour scheme black and white, the creator has had the opportunity to mix more shapes (patterns) in different scales without overcrowding effect. Another benefit from the achromatic colour scheme is the strong contrast that helps avoiding the fusion of overlapping patterns. Actually the smaller scale patterns look more like a texture laid onto patterned background. Marcel Wanders combined local motifs and traditions with his joyful aesthetic to develop an environment that has an ‘Alice-in-Wanders-land’ appeal.
